Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Caring Hands
Some of our neighbors were fighting just to get by while their homes suffered from neglect. We couldn't look the other way."

Our Story

Bridging the Gap started with a simple observation: some of our neighbors were struggling to meet basic needs while their homes required maintenance and repairs that they were unable to do themselves.

Along the way, we realized there were even more people living in unfit housing—people who needed more help than we could give and could no longer safely live on their own. We helped some of them move into assisted living or other situations that offered them safety and dignity, but we knew we were only scratching the surface.

So we became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit—able to collect donations, help more people faster, and connect capable volunteers with real opportunities to serve their community.

Our Mission

Bridging the Gap matches volunteers and resources to the individual needs of our neighbors, with a priority to ensure our community lives in safe, well-kept homes; and when needs run deep, we help people navigate the wider network of local support.

How We Serve

We start by listening. When a neighbor reaches out—or when someone in the community flags a need—we take the time to understand exactly what's required, whether that's yard work, home repairs, weatherproofing, or something else entirely.

From there, we match that need to the right volunteer. Our volunteers bring a range of skills, and we make sure the person showing up knows how to do the job well—so repairs get done right, and help actually helps.

We pair neighbor to neighbor, not stranger to stranger. That personal connection matters: it builds trust, and it means the work gets done by people who understand the community they're serving.

And when a need falls outside what we can directly address, we don't just point people in a direction—we help them navigate the local resources available, so they're never left wondering where to turn next.

Donations go directly to Bridging the Gap, and we keep our overhead low. That means more of every dollar goes where it's needed most—straight into local projects that support our neighbors.
